The influence school principals have on the values of their pupils

From experience to meaning...

This study both surprises me and doesn’t surprise me. We’ve known the impact of principals on education for quite some time now, but still we also know the relatively low impact of schools on values. Parents and friends often play a much bigger role. In this study published in Psychological Science it’s shown that over time, students’ personal values become more similar to those of their school principal. The findings indicate that principals’ values are linked with aspects of school climate which are, in turn, linked with students’ own values.
