From experience to meaning...

But wait… maybe it’s because Finland sent in a dream team as it’s a comparison between 67 students from an international school in Finland versus 348 students in participant groups of between 170 and 176 across three districts in California. The districts had diverse populations with a free and reduced student lunch rate of 36%, 55%, and 68%.

I do think this is a bit comparing apples and oranges, still the differences in results are pretty huge.

A recent study revealed students at an international school in Finland significantly outperformed U.S. students on tasks which measure digital literacy in social media and online news. The researchers suggest this may be due to the Finnish and International Baccalaureate curricula’s different way of facilitating students’ critical thinking skills compared to the US system and curriculum.
